LAS to BZM only 99 cents!
Hi
I was just checking the Allegiant Air website for fares from CPR to LAS. By mistake I selected BZM (Bozeman, MT), as my departure city. Before discovering my mistake I saw a 99 cent fare from LAS to BZM on Saturday October 9. I did however discover the taxes and fees are more than the airfare. They bring it up to $11.59 or $25.59 depending on if you book one way or round trip. Someone else suggested that, because Allegiant does not normally fly there on Saturdays that they must of had some sort of charter flight out of there and so the needed to get the plane there and hoped that they might make some money with packages they sell. I doubt $0.99/flight would come anywhere near the cost to put passengers on an otherwise empty plane. Between the costs involved with accepting and processing the payment and the fuel used lifting and carrying you, there are some fixed costs below which it's cheaper for an airline to fly with an empty seat. (This also assumes that the airline already has some passengers on the plane, if not, a plane full of people at $0.99/head wouldn't cover the cost to bring in the ticket/gate agents or flight attendants) Now it's not impossible they're running a loss-leader just to attract attention, or trying to test a route to see if there are enough passengers to justify the route even if you take cost out of the equation, but it seems to me to be more likely that someone screwed up on the pricing. |

Michael =============== That's Saturday, October 10th. I guess if you wanted to visit Bozeman for the day, but getting back to Vegas will be a bit pricier. |
