CP use now overseas?

From the articles I've read, the concern of businesspeople is that if other people know that they can receive calls aboard the airplane, they cannot switch the telephone off because they'll be asked to explain it later on. If cell phones are simply forbidden on the flight, the businesspeople don't have to explain why they were unreachable. So tell them you had a low battery and put your charger in your luggage. |

"Mxsmanic" wrote in message ... writes: Someone told me today that you can use a cellphone overseas on flights now. Is this true? Wouldn't the plane need some kind of router or something to get signals out? The EU has apparently approved cell phone use in Europe, but I don't have the details. I don't know if they use microcells aboard the aircraft or simply rely on ground stations. It's a bit of a negative development, because many business customers cherish having a few hours without the interruptions from a cell phone. I am one, who cherishes the quiet time from the freaking cell phones. Keep em off the planes. |

How many times do you think that excuse will work? Business people need some kind of quiet time, and the leisure travelers don't need the thing glued to their ear for the entire flight. |

Children don't follow businesspeople around; cell phones do. Anthony, you dumb ****, its the business people who are constantly on their cell phones and want to be able to use them in flight. Anthony is right, and you don't have a clue. PLONK |

So their emissions are much lower. The aircraft is equipped with satellite link which then bounces the signals back to an earth station that connects to the telephone system. It is not known how much they will charge per minute. I think they should allow inbound SMS, but not allow inbound phone calls (aka: no phone ringing all the time). Having ability to make outbound calls can be very useful, but perhaps calls should be limited to say 5 minutes. "I made the flight, we're 45 minutes late, meet me at arrivals in airport at 16:30" but not: "And then like OMG, Brittney totally told Chad off, and I was like OMG NO WAY...." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7334372.stm IMHO it would be too hard to control. Life went along just fine before cell phones. I think it's best to leave sleeping dogs lay. You're a ****ing retard, just like Anthony. |

However, if the airlines are trying to maximize revenue, then they aren't going to rush to kill a potential cash cow. |
