How much is added to the room rate?

I stayed at the Royalton a couple of weeks ago (the week of the St. Pat's
parade). The average room rate was $223.20, the tax was $37.13/night. I
don't know how much of the tax was flat and how much was based on the room
rate. FYI, if considering staying at the Royalton, avoid rooms around room
409. Room 409 is the fitness center, very noisy.

You would be better off if you asked someone at the hotel
where you plan to stay what the exact tax rate is. While
you're at it, ask if there are any other charges such as an
in-room safe charge.

Sorry folks, I'm wrong...I just check with some colleagues that book
people in for the office, the sakles tax on clothes is 8.25% but the tax
on hotel rooms is 13.625%.

you'll also end up paying a $2 flat fee to
the city of New York (they don't stipulate what this is for) but they
have recently announced that they are planning on bringing in a new
$1.50 to help fund the extension and upgrading of the Javitts Center (a
conference and exhibition hall on the midtown, west side) see the
article...
