Hotels Replacing Bibles With koran, etc trash bible
"les_on_usenet" wrote in message ... I spent two nights in a hotel in Tangier once and do not recall seeing a Koran in our room. We were woken up early in the morning by loudspeakers outside calling us to prayers though. They're not usually distributed in hotels frequented by foreigners as the Koran is supposedly best read in classical Arabic. The loudspeakers probably weren't calling *you* specifically to prayer. Here we have a Shi'a mosque a few doors away that uses a range of talented voices that I either stop and listen to, or after several years of living in countries with significant Muslim populations, sleep right through - especially through the fajr at dawn. The funny thing is maybe five people in total have read it. I just grasp someone's hate for anything as good as Christianity. When I think of the Red Cross, Salvation Army and other Christians groups that have sent food and goods overseas in my heart I know they're a basically good people. The Gideons are the ones offering free Bibles. Have you seen any Muslims doing that with the Quran? I spent two nights in a hotel in Tangier once and do not recall seeing a Koran in our room. Heh. Been there many times. And still recall little about it. Yes. It's that good! We were woken up early in the morning by loudspeakers outside calling us to prayers though. Think of it as the beginning of a classic Queen track... That said and FWIW, I think that it's *incredibly* unlikely that the Qu'ran would be spread around as the Bible is distributed through the Gideons et al, not least because as we have all gathered, many Muslims take their Holy Book incredibly seriously, and allowing the possibility of having it treated in a disrespectful way as say hotel distribution would allow would be thought to be - at least by those who are in principle able to pay for the distribution - unacceptable. Mind you, I'm rather with Pratchett on this. |

Somehow, the title of this thread reminded me that many of the hotels
in Utah come supplied with a copy of the Book of Mormon. |

Anyone who actually wants to read the bible when they are staying in a hotel (a tiny minority, I should imagine) is perfectly entitled to take their own. I would be somewhat surprised if such folk didn't always have one with them anyway. The Bibles in hotel rooms don't belong o the hotel, anyway. They are distributed by the Gideons International. To be religiously fair, the hotel should also allow the Mormons to stick a Book of Mormon in rooms.
