campervan holidays in oz
I am looking at hiring a campervan to tour australia's East coast in the summer. This may sound like a dull question, but whats the deal on stopping overnight?! Is it jsut a case of pulling over in an appropriate spot or only in campsites? if so, what is the average cost (if any) per night to park your van and stay on a pitch for a night? thanks in advance! matt -- mwebber_82 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mwebber_82's Profile: http://travelforums.org/forums/member.php?userid=664 View this thread: http://travelforums.org/forums/showthread.php?t=64207 This post was submitted via http://www.TravelForums.org |

Caravan Parks, i.e. commercial places that have sites where you can leave
your caravan, campervan or camper, range from $10 to $32 for two adults overnight per night. There are a number of places (in Queensland) where you can stop (in company with others) overnight and up to 48 hours but there are no hot showers and often not even a cold shower or any other amenity. Me? I prefer the hot shower each night. You can purchase directories of caravan parks for each state from the motoring club for that state OR you can purchase a directory for the whole of Australia from the RACQ (Queensland Club) http://www.racq.com.au although this directory is populated by parks that pay for an entry. Public toilets are plentiful and so are water taps (something sadly lacking in Europe IMHO), most coastal parking spots with beach access also have a cold shower - this time of year its even hot. Most car parks in popular spots (Byron Bay, Gold Coast) have "no overnight parking" signs which everyone obeys (not). But be prepared to get moved on by some over zealous council parking attendant. The cops wont bother you unless you are smoking dope or look as though you have just robbed the local bank. Dont leave your keys in the ignition, having a few drinks can put you over the .05 blood alcohol limit and the "driver" will be breathalysed if the coppers are feeling a bit nasty. Watch for signs of hooning in the car parks - lots of skid marks, broken beer bottles, etc. usually means a disturbed night's sleep. I'd avoid any roadside stop as trucks will come and go all night. If you can get a campervan with an Evacool Sleeping Well air conditioner it will help cool you down at night. |
