Default Ocean Cargo Service from Australia to U.S.

Are any of the large shipping services such as DHL offering options to ship
by ocean cargo instead of air freight? I know that ocean cargo can save a
lot for a larger item, but I'm wondering if some large shipper has a service
to consolidate many customers' orders into a cargo container, to pass on the
savings to smaller items (i.e., under 200 pounds).

Any good freight forwarder will do that for you, US to Aus takes
about 6 weeks sailing time - via SE Asia usually.

With ocean freight you just have to be aware that they dont give
a rats arse about your property and damages are a fact of life
with absolutely no chance of getting any recompence from the
shipping company, wharf companies, and every other bugger
who has a taste of you on the way.

At least with air freight they are not protected by 19th Century
treaties and if they damage your property they pay for it. Air
is also a far more streamlined process - usually one invoice
for door to door service (apart from customs and quarantine),
whereas ocean freight usually has at least two invoices and
sometimes upto five (overseas transport, overseas packer,
shipping company, wharf charges at destination, transport
charges).

Are you going over there yourself (or know somebody who is)? It may be
cheaper to send as unaccompanied baggage. That's what we found when shipping
a consignment from Singapore to Sydney. (Then we got it cheaper again using
an airfreight consolidator in Singapore.) Apparently port clearance in Aus
is horrendous! You could try asking Menzies Aviation, I don't know if they
do retail but they might be able to put you in touch with an airfreight
consolidator.
