New Orleans Airport to French Quarter
I'll need to get to my hotel in the French Quarter hotel from the New
Orleans airport. From what I understand of the Jefferson Transit system's website, I'd have to change buses at least once. Would welcome advice as to whether I'm better off taking a private airport shuttle bus for the time and money instead? Thanks. |

New Orleans Airport to French Quarter
I believe that taxicab fares from the airport to the French Quarter
are highly regulated by the city of New Orleans -- I think everyone must charge the same fare (for 1 or 2 passengers). You might therefore find that the taxi is cheaper than the shuttle bus. (Maybe someone who actually lives in New Orleans can help out here?) New Orleans Airport to French Quarter
For two the taxi is about the same as the shuttle. Personally, I don't
understand how the shuttle survives. The folks are pleasant enough but a taxi is simpler. FFM New Yorker wrote: I'll need to get to my hotel in the French Quarter hotel from the New Orleans airport. FFM I'd assume they stay in business because of the convention traffic--lots of singles trying to get to their hotels and figuring the shuttle is cheaper than the taxi. The Jefferson Transit express bus to New Orleans was something like $3. My guestimate is that the "end of the line" of the bus would leave you between 1.5 and 2 miles from your hotel, depending on where you're staying. If you want to get any closer to your hotel, then, yes, at least one transfer will be necessary. [It might actually require paying a whole 'nother fare, because the bus system that operates in the city of New Orleans is not the same bus system that operates around New Orlean's MSY airport]. I had a devil of a time trying to figure out how to catch that bus. I asked at numerous hotel front desks and, while most were aware of the bus, only one out of the half-dozen people I asked could tell me where to catch the bus and what the fare would be. They were also uncertain of the name of the operating company so I couldn't even figure out who to call to ask for information. I'd only take the bus if I were traveling alone and traveling light, during the day, and if the weather was good. With two or more, I think the taxi makes the most sense. Traveling alone, or at night, or in the rain, or with serious luggage, I'd take the shuttle bus. TK |
