Trekking trips in NZ (ex UK)?
I'm looking for a two to three-week trekking trip to NZ from the UK in
Jan/Feb 2007. Several companies do them, but many seem to offer mainly day hiking. I’m hoping for at least two multi-day trips including trips like the Routeburn track (or the Grand Traverse), Stewart Island and the Heaphy (I've done Tongariro, Keplar, Abel Tasman & Q. Charlotte). I’ve already looked at: http://www.highplaces.co.uk/ http://www.worldwalks.com/ http://www.walksworldwide.com/ as possibilities, but was wondering if there’s anyone else along those lines. It doesn't have to be a UK company: I'd be quite happy with a NZ company: there are plenty of NZ companies doing this sort of thing, so a recommendation would be nice rather than plucking one off the net. There's only one of me going, so I'm looking for a group trekking arrangement. Thanks, Allan |

Thanks, Allan You could try http://www.leisuretheme.com A guy in NZ called David Jones who specialises in personalised itineraries. He's been very helpful to me on walking related matters. Mention my name. Jim Hutton |

It is easy enough and cheaper to just do it yourself without a trekking company. And if it's company you're after you'll easily find it with the hut system. NZ is full of people from all over the world keen to share their experiences. |

With the Milford and the Routeburn at around one year minimum. ***************** A true compassionate liberal anarchist Thank You To reply to this email please remove the AT after the kgs in the reply to address as shown above. |

Check the Dept. of conservation (DOC) website. Their site offers a calendar for most major tramps showing vacancies. And while some (not all) such as the Kepler are heavily booked in the huts, they offer tent sites. Same with pvt. operated tramps such as The Hump. I've done them all several times, and have never had to book more than a month in advance, as long as you can be a bit flexible with start date. Good luck. |

Thanks, Allan There was a posting here very recently re the Milford track and I did a check for availability - there was nothing however use the contact form on the DOC website in case there are cancellations! In view of the above suprising comment I checked website for two tramps. Milford and The Hump. There are heaps of spaces for freedom walkers on both. Here is a link to the Milford track calendar which will show availability. Don't worry about freedom walking as even though you are travelling alone, you will do each tramp in a group of around 40.You'll soon mix in. It's all pretty cruisy. |

Sorry - forgot to include link. http://www.doc.govt.nz/serviceavaila...iousBookingId= That's to Milford - which is regarded as the king daddy of all walks. This one is to the Hump - a fairly new track. Original part goes way back but developed for trampers around 5 or 6 years ago. https://secure.southnet.co.nz/humptr...ndar_popup.htm |
