Default Safari in Kenya/Tanzania in April?

Is it a good idea to book a safari to either Kenya or Tanzania in April?
I know that this is the 'long rains' time, but will that significantly spoil
a safari? Do some parts of the game parks become no-go areas due to the
amount of rain? Is there still a significant amount of sun at this time of
year?
Thanks for your help!

Giles,

no.

In some years yes, in other years no. It's unpredictable.

In some years, yes. At some time you can't even pass some main
roads through the parks. I have some memories of Maasai Mara.

Is there still a significant amount of sun at this time of year?

Yes. Sometimes it rains, occasionally it can rain, on and off,
for weeks, sometimes it stops raining, and there is sunshine as
well.

My personal recommendation is to avoid April in Kenya, but if
you accept the risk, you may be lucky with the weather or you
may have to endure long rains.

So far the weather this year has been somewhat unusual, so maybe
you'd be lucky this time.

Some lodges close during the long rains, fx Klein's camp bordering
Serengeti, Tanzania.
