Where to fish in Auckland area ?
We will be in Auckland area for a short vacation in early December. We
are not into big game fishing as the entire family will go sea-sick. We would like to do a bit of pole fishing( like just standing on a bridge or pier and throw a line out...). Any suggestion where we can do this? What kind of bait should we prepare? ABC |

You are better off in a boat on a calm day but look for wherever anyone
else is fishing. Birkenhead and Devonport Wharves, Westhaven under the harbour bridge are popular spots. Try the West Coast beaches but don't get drowned in the big surf. When boat fishing, we have had the best results with Bonito bait but mullet, pilchards, squid and shellfish are all OK but not always suitable for casting as some softer baits will not stay on the hook. In addition to stevesub's reply in this thread, there is also the old Mangere bridge (while it still exists) http://www.nzherald.co.nz/category/s...ectid=10398552 |
