Default Cigarette Lighter Power Sources in Automobiles

Cars in North America allow DC Adaptors to power your laptops, etc.. I
know household power differs Australia and North America.
But will North American Adaptors work in Australian cars?

There are 12 volt DC power outlets in most cars - the old cigarette socket.
Some cars (Mercedes and I think BMW) have their own smaller outlets for some
reason and you need an adaptor to go up to the normal size.

Have a look at dick smith electronics website for pics, etc.

Many new cars don't have them - they are an optional extra , just like
ashtrays

Nearly all new cars HAVE the socket, but with no cigarette lighter fitted!!
It is often placed in the centre seat console somewhere. It's called a power
jack!
