1 Month Europe Vacation Help Needed
One idea... save enough to spluge on one or two night in a cool hotel
before you leave. The experience is very different from the low cost places, and one you will find very interesting. I've done both, and I like both. What I don't like is the medium priced hotels. They tend to look down at you, whereas the other ends are reasonably happy to receive you, and sometimes are extremely nice to tourists. That's my experience, anyway. Before you go, you might want to check out a site that has some very interesting interesting pictures of Europe: http://www.informationeurope.com There are some hints about how to get along in Europe and have fun, and has good hints and links to some regular places and some unusual places. For your journey, check out especially the section on Our Visit and then France. It has some really fine pix and insights into Paris. For your euro rail pass, which is now called the Eurail pass and is no longer called the eurorailpass, http://www.euro-rail.org is the place to start. The site leads you step by step into how to get the best deal on your europe train pass from Rail Europe. You could save a lot by looking here first. It makes things really simple. |

For good airfares to Europe, try statravel.com
You should get a railpass, since individual railway tickets to, from, and within France, Germany, and Switzerland tend to be very expensive. Do not rent a car unless you're really going off the beaten track - the European rail network goes almost everywhere, and public transportation within most European cities is excellent (while traffic and parking are a nightmare in many places). If you plan on exploring a part of the French or Italian countryside that has limited public transportation, then you might rent a car just for that area. Interlaken is the best place in the Swiss Alps for adventure sports. You can go bungee jumping, rock climbing, paragliding, canyoning, skydiving, etc. One piece of advice I can give you is to not try to see everything on one trip. One month really isn't a lot of time in five countries, even if you just focus on major cities. It's better to see a few places and really experience them than to be rushing around all the time and spending a lot of your trip on trains and in train stations and going to and from hotels. Slow down, get off the tourist trail, and meet local people whenever possible, and you'll enjoy your trip a lot more. |
