Default Phuket Trip - Need Your Advice

My wife and I are planning a 10-day vacation in Phuket, Thailand this
winter to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary, and would be obliged
if you could share your experiences on the following:

1. This is our first trip to Thailand. Is Phuket overcrowded in
December? We are looking for a calm and quiet beach area. Any
recommendations?
2. Can anyone without experience of snorkeling/diving try their hand
at it?
3. Is a trip to the PhiPhi islands worth it? What are the costs
involved and does one need to book the trip in advance?
4. Are budget accommodations available in Phuket during December,
since we plan to use the hotel only for keeping our luggage and be out
most of the time )? How soon does one need to book in advance?
5. How are the distances in Phuket? Any places where one hire a
motorbike and zoom around town (as in, say Goa, India)?
6. Does Phuket have a Disneyland-ish kind of place? We've heard about
Phuket Fantasea? Any good? Any other recommendations on fun things to
do?

Thanks in advance! )

Pipson and Uma.

If you want somewhere really calm and quiet, consider Ko Chang.

2. Can anyone without experience of snorkeling/diving try their hand

Snorkeling you can do right away.

You need a certification to dive. Most places that offer diving will
also offer a training course that gets you that certification, but it
takes a few days. If you want to try diving, you might try to get
certified before you leave so you wouldn't have to spend half your
trip in dive training.

Agree. If you persuade a lot of people to go there, it will stop being
calm and quiet.

had sai khao stopped being quiet all on its own at some time in the last
two years... if you consider what it is now "calm and quiet", then we
mean different things by the words...
