I already made my reservation (and paid the trip to Alaska Marine
Highway).
I hope everthing goes fine, but in the "Murphy-Case"... Would a taxi be an
alternative for Greyhound? I never tried got on a taxi ride between Canada
and USA nor on such a distance.

It would cost a "Kings Ramsom"

As an alternative to "Greyhound" look at the Quick Shuttle:

Mark Brader:
I've only ever taken the train from Toronto to Vancouver once and
that was 20 years ago -- but I remember that it arrived 9 hours late.

Jon Bell:
Was there some single major factor or event that caused this?

There were at least three separate delays. In northern Ontario on
the second day of the trip, we had a long run of red signals and
may just have been behind a slower train. The second delay was
that night in Winnipeg, and the third one the following night, I
think at Field (just into B.C. -- this was back when The Canadian
still used the CP route). I don't think any of the problems were with
our train itself, but I don't remember what I did find out about them.

According to that site, in both Vancouver and Bellingham they only
serve the airports. The original poster is arriving in Vancouver
by train and leaving Bellingham by sea, so he'd need taxi connections
at both ends. (Having said that, I don't know how near Greyhound
comes to Vancouver's train station or Bellingham's docks either.)

Although not clear from the website, Quick Shuttle does leave from the
VIA Rail Station as well as downtown hotels and for most journeys
Vancouver Airport.

However, you are correct that it does not go to Bellingham ferry
docks.

The Greyhound bus also leaves from adjacent to the VIA Rail terminal
in Vancouver

My dear... I had to google for that term...

king's ransom

Thought that could be the nick of a very large bill.

Greyhound is calling their station in Bellingham:
401 HARRIS ST
STE 225
Bellingham, WA 98225

But all my online-maps are calling this Harris Avenue... so I am a bit
uncertain...

www.map24.com is showing the ferry-station verrry close to the
Fairhaven - Greyhound station.

Yepp, I found similar information on the Via-Website.

When I am back, I will publish detailed information on my website. Seems to
be a unknown travel route ;-)

You can contact Yellow Cab Vancouver about taxi fares to Bellingham
he

http://www.yellowcabvancouver.ca/

There are other cab companies in Vancouver, but the fares are regulated
so they will all be about the same.

Make sure you bring a printout map of location of the ferry terminal,
as a Vancouver cab driver will know how to get to Bellingham but won't
know how to find the ferry terminal.

Then that would be a better choice than the quick shuttle..as long as their
schedule fits your plans

The Greyhound ticket counter is inside the train station. As I stood in
line to board a bus from Vancouver to Calgary, the Amtrak train to Seattle
sat a few feet away, on the other side of a fence.
