of the year, after the smoking bans went in place in Illinois, our local
bars and restaurants are reporting a 20% decrease in business.

And the casino layed off quite a few that they said was because of the
no smoking rules.

just as busy now as they ever were.

The smoking public, including our son, just go outside when they feel they
need a smoke.

I suspect that you are right. And some restaurants and bars are putting
in outside areas for drinking, dining and smoking that will help them.
Of course, this winter has been one of the coldest here in many years,
so the outside isn't very pleasant.

But on a cruise ship that might go no smoking, those options wouldn't be
available. And frankly the smoke nazis never give up.

Wonder what we'll do when the fat nazis gain power?

Well, it is statewide in Illinois.

From the reports of the owners, it isn't affecting the weekend business
as much as it does the 'regulars' business, and the weekend alone won't
keep a B&R open in most cases.

Of course, if the gov't was actually interested in stopping smoking,
instead of kowtowing to a loud, obnoxious constituency, they would ban
smoking everywhere, ban growing tobacco and do away with farm subsidies
for tobacco growing. But you know that ain't happening.

And for some reason they often think that everyone just loves the
smell so they try to make clouds of smoke. There was one on the beach
in FT. Lauderdale last week doing that. Fortunately he was downwind of
us and there was a decent breeze so we didn't have to smell it.

Since the smoking bans in Maryland and DC I have been enjoying going to
bars again. I had given up going years ago because of the smoke.

I don't think that when the cruise ships go no smoking that there won't
be an option to smoke outside. There will probably also be a small
inside area as an option. On Azamara and Oceania they have an outside
area and an area in one lounge. I think that worked out well on my
Azamara cruise. Very pleasant to be able to enjoy a ship without the
smell and stink.

That's exactly why they need a smoking ban or at least a designated smoking
area on all beaches. At least I can choose the upwind side to sit on.
