We are looking to rent the snorkling gear; Thank you, as Get an inflatable life jacket at West Marine, before you go. Does not take much room. SOSospenders is the major brand. As to standing areas, lots along the Maui coast. Kehai area. |

If you go at low tide and stay inside the reef, there will be large areas where you can stand up in calm water. Daily tide tables should be printed in the local newspapers. |

My recommendation in Honolulu - it's the BEST - HANAUMA BAY - an easy short city bus ride from Waikiki - good for non-swimmers too - very protected shallow reefs - equipment rental is there if needed. It is a state park so there is a small fee for entering - it is the most beautiful spot - bring a lunch, water, blanket and stay the day. Should not be missed.
