Salt Lake City, Denver, or Phoenix?
If you were traveling the first week of September, which one of those
cities would you prefer to visit, and why? |

Both Salt Lake City and Denver are close to the mountains, and Phoenix which is further away from nice red rock country and also close to the east a very nice drive around the Superstition Mountains. Phoenix will be hot, possibly the other places, but there you can escape into the cooler close mountains. You could always let airfare and flight availability dictate which one to choose. George |

With the rockies nearby there's lots to do and you can stay cool. September in Phoenix can be brutally hot SLC would be a close second but only as starting point for a drive to either the Utah NP's or Yellowstone Keith |

Salt Lake City, Denver, or Phoenix?
If you were traveling the first week of September, which one of those cities would you prefer to visit, and why? Denver or Salt Lake, in that order, though even there it's perhaps a better time to visit the nearby mountains than the city itself unless your reason for going is strictly indoors. Phoenix is much lower in elevation as well as in latitude, and will still be cracking 100 deg. F every day (possibly by a wide margin) and there is some chance of high humidity by local standards as well. Fun and useful information may be found at http://www.wunderground.com/history/ You didn't say where you're from, but note also that that's the week of the Labor Day holiday, traditionally the last hurrah of summer vacation in the US. You might avoid the crowds if you can slip your schedule by as little as a week, though from a weather standpoint you might want two or three weeks (more like four or five in the case of Phoenix itself). Enjoy your trip, --Joe |
