Huh? Firstly, KLM is a historic Boeing custome, so how can they "leave
the Airbus family"?

because their previous Airbuses were A300s .

So KLM dscovered A-300 (which ones, BTW, -B2/-B4s or -600s?) had poorer
fuel economy than moden planes? Great!
