Not necessarily a connection. The Fed has historically followed a policy
of "benign neglect" as far as the dollar rate is concerned. After all, a
low currency is excellent for exports.

Just how much does the US really export?

I wouldn't forget that a higher Euro does a lot for US exports to
Europe if I were you.

Those exports add up to bugger all in the whole scheme of things. The
USA doesn't all that much from exports to Europe.

I particularly like the "the American people want so and so." Funny,
I don't know a single average American they've talked to.

USA goods to Europe (2005): ?234 billion.
USA services to Europe (2005): ?93 billion.
That adds up to ?327 billion. Admittedly, out of a ?10 trillion annual
GDP, it isn't a gigantic fraction, but it's still not exactly small
change. And then there's that ?772 billion of US foreign direct
investment in Europe; not exactly chump change.
