Barcelona in March
Thinking of going for a week but spending 2 or 3 days on day trips or
possibly going to Mallorca. But I've heard that there could be heavy rain in Mallorca (and Barcelona too) so may not be worth the expense of flying out there, rather do day trips along the coast. Any opinions? Tarragona looks interesting but in the other direction, Costa Brava would be as susceptible to wet weather this time of the year? |

But I've heard that there could be heavy rain in Mallorca (and Barcelona too) so may not be worth the expense of flying out there, rather do day trips along the coast. Any opinions? Here are the averages for Barcelona: http://www.climatetemp.info/graph/ba...s/image001.gif Here the same for Mallorca: http://www.climatetemp.info/graph/ma...s/image001.gif Tarragona looks interesting but in the other direction, Costa Brava would be as susceptible to wet weather this time of the year? http://www.climatetemp.info/spain/girona.html It all depends on what you want to see and do. In none of the mentioned places the rain would be a week long hazard, unless you want to sit out in the open, eating and drinking, all day. I wouldn't combine a week in Barcelona with 2-3 days of Mallorca, because Barcelona and its surrounding area would keep me busy for more than that week already. But as said, it all depends on your interests and activities. -- Erick |

It was in mid March and it was dry, though a bit cool at times. So maybe Mallorca would make more sense if I can dedicate more time. |

So maybe Mallorca would make more sense if I can dedicate more time. Not much warmer, though. In case you are more of a traveler who likes to see old fishermen villages and quiet bays, Menorca would perhaps be more interesting than Mallorca. Menorca is, of course, much smaller, but will certainly be interesting for 2-3 days. Probably not for a whole week. -- Erick |

Sorry, I got that wrong but it proves my point about weather. George and Frederic went in winter! Well, the weather criteria haven't been quite clear in this thread, yet. What is "good weather"? You probably know people who love to walk along the coast line in autumn, when the beaches are empty, the wind blows and the waves forcefully hit the dunes. You also probably know those, whose single idea of the perfect week at the coast is to bake in a comfy 35C heat for 10 hours a day. Both will claim that "the weather was perfect". March in Barcelona, Mallorca and Menorca means, for me, good weather to make long walks, do some geocaching, visit quaint towns or (in Barcelona) off-center city districts, rent a car for a day, and ....sigh... take the Mrs. to the shopping malls. -- Erick |

The Costa Blanca has other interesting places, and to the North of Barcelona there are other places like Rosas, on the Costa Brava, Picasso and Salvador Dali country |

Yes, and its sublime aquaduct (a bus ride out of town) is being renovated at the moment- a lot of scaffolding. -- (*) of the royal duchy of city south and deansgate www.davidhorne.net (email address on website) "[Do you think the world learned anything from the first world war?] No. They never learn." -Harry Patch (1898-2009) |

Dry and 15C or greater would be fine. Yeah being able to take long walks would be great. Not looking to swim in the ocean or sunbathe (though would prefer sunny days to overcast). David's report about scaffolding on the aqueduct is disappointing. When I visited in 2006, La Seu was covered with scaffolding too and not lit up at night. Heard that the scaffolding is off so would be good to see it restored. |
