Travelling by train from Canada to USA

Is it a possibility for a UK citizen to do this and does passport control take long at the land border? many thanks in advance Sid snip Greyhound Express takes just over 3 hours. This choice also by-passes the long border lineups for cars (up to 2 hours is not unheard of at busy times). The Greyhound base in Seattle is at 8th and Stewart --- about 2 miles from Amtrak. Vancouver Greyhound leaves from the same Terminal as Amtrak and is again about 2 miles from the center of town. You forgot to mention Quick Shuttle, they pick people up at SeaTac and drops them off at various Vancouver hotels, including downtown. Jan Jongejan Dept. Travelling by train from Canada to USA
If the person really wants to take the train, I would take the train from
Seattle to LA, and then take the train from LA to Flagstaff, and take the bus from Flag to Phoenix. Flagstaff has motels and hostels near the train station. Also it is walking distance from the train to the bus station. It is only a couple of hours to Phoenix. There is a train that goes from Williams to the Grand Canyon or there are tour buses. Tom |

Travelling by train from Canada to USA
Would be quite awkward - probably going Amtrak from Vancouver to some
point in California then heading east to AZ. http://www.amtrak.com/ More than likely there is a direct flight to Pheonix from Vancouver as there are from Calgary and Edmonton. If it looks like a one way trip they can make life miserable. Doesnt matter if you take the train, the bus or fly, they want to be sure you are not planing on outstaying your welcome. My brother made the mistake of trying to go from Toronto to NYC, back to Toronto, but left his return air ticket from Toronto to UK at his hotel in TO, and he was grilled for a while until the hotel confirmed they had his return ticket and a reservation.
