Default Day trip NYC - Niagra

If you really want Niagara as a day trip from New York City I recommend that
you fly. ... once in Buffalo could rent a car to drive to Niagara Falls,
which is about 30 minutes away. ...

P.S. As you may be aware, to view the falls properly you'll also want to
cross into Canada, so be sure and have proper documentation for an
international border.

And make sure that the rental car company allows you to take the car
into Canada. Not a problem with the major companies, but as we've seen
recently in this newsgroup, some discount companies are more restrictive.

(Having said that, if the immediate area of the falls is the only part
of the Canadian side that you want to see, you *could* find parking near
the US end of the Rainbow Bridge and just walk from there. The parking
near the falls on the Canadian side isn't all that close to the falls
anyway, and isn't cheap, either.)

Default Day trip NYC - Niagra

If you really want Niagara as a day trip from New York City I recommend
that you fly. Jetblue Airlines has relatively inexpensive flights--look at
jetblue.com for details. For $115 per person you can fly up to Buffalo and
back in one day; once in Buffalo could rent a car to drive to Niagara
Falls, which is about 30 minutes away. For example if you left from JFK
(airport) at 7:00 you'd be up there at 8:20 AM, and you could return on a
7:20 PM arriving back at JFK at 8:35 PM. For four folks it isn't
necessarily cheap, but if you and yours really want to see the falls as a
day trip it is entirely doable.

I agree - this is the only reasonable way to do it as a day trip. It's
cheaper than the bus tour, and you spend a lot less time in transit.

Parking is pretty easy in side streets just a couple blocks from the falls
on the US side. You can park your rental there, check out the excellent park
on the US side, then walk across the bridge to the Canadian side where you
can get a panoramic view of the falls from the park there.
