Jean,

Wasn't that the Regatta TA that missed Bermuda due to foul weather? We
were aboard.

I don't like flying brand new airplanes, either (I'm an old pilot).

No, Ike, we made Bermuda, so it must have been a different sailing.. I
agree
with you about the airplanes, though...but are there even any new ones
out
there now? ;-)

My wife thinks we did that trip in late 2007...

I was a Marine flyer for 20 years, and preferred to fly old/tired aircraft
instead of new/shiny ones. Statistics supported those feelings.

And yes, there are new ones. Boeing just flew the 787, which is a plastic
composite aircraft that's all-electronic. Once it settles down, it should
be the best and safest. And in light aircraft, which I still fly, there
are constant new introductions.

Our trans-Atlantic Oceania Regatta was in Nov 2008, so that explains it.
It's good to hear that we are getting some safer aircraft after all the
incidents in the past year or two that the airlines have been experiencing.
I admire pilots and don't laugh but I have always secretly wished I been
one! But nursing ended up as my profession and then raising a family of five
ended up as my "career" ;-)
