The Wang Fat Hostel (despite the name it is a cheap hotel rather than a
hostel) in Causeway Bay. Right down the street from an MTR station,
clean, small rooms, and free Internet. In 2003 it was HKD 280 / US $35
per night, with discounts for longer stays (at least a week).

Avoid the Chungking Mansions and Mirador Mansions unless you are on a
very low budget. The guesthouses there have mostly dorm rooms and
theft can be a problem, and the bathroom in the Mirador guesthouse I
stayed in had a shower with cold brown water and protruding nails.

Haven't stayed there, but I've heard bad things about the Mount Davis
hostel also. The Wang Fat hostel had a lot of people who were in the
Mount Davis hostel and hated it.

Whatever you do, do not book anything through hostelworld.com.

Hello,

If you dont want to stay in hotel and think that hostel is in low quality,
I suggest you can stay on Lamma Island resort which has excellent
environment and located on Island. Rooms charge from HK$300 dollars. You
can see the below website for your reference:

Hope it helps

You mean the one on Argyle Street in Mong Kok? I stayed there a few
months ago, and found it to be a good deal by Hong Kong standards. The
location was vibrant and interesting, well connected to public
transport, and the proprietor (Stanley) was very friendly and helpful.

Price is still much the same, though I think they've progressively
gained more rooms in the same building, and one fifty metres away,
since. Small rooms help ensure you have a chilly room within a few
minutes, anyway
