From Cruise Critic. On Holland America and Carnival, no smoking in
Staterooms. Still allowed on balconies.

That's nice that Princess will ban smoking on balconies. If they would
ban it in the casino, too, that would be great.

I am looking forward to my Celebrity cruise next April as I have a lot
of sea days and for once, I'll be able to enjoy the casino.

I don't think smokers realize that when they smoke on their balconies
the smoke often blows onto the balconies of non smokers and makes using
the balcony they paid for impossible.

I really doubt most would care.

A woman was puffing away at the bus stop on our street this evening and she
was leaving a large pile of butts. No care about the mess.

What about the people who apparently buy cars without ash trays and feel
the need to toss their butts out their car windows? Or people who just
drop them on the ground when going into a store?

Sorry for continuing the off-topic rant.

Well to get back on topic I have four cruises booked thru the end of the
year, two on HAL and two on Royal Caribbean. The HAL changes won't be in
effect unfortunately for the two sailings but at least the cruise lines
keep moving in the right direction with more restrictions every few years.
I think the balcony smoking will end on all of them like on Celebrity and
now Princess since complaints about balcony smoking are persistent on the
Cruise Critic message boards.

Like my smoker co-worker who has not worked for three months now
because he has to take oxygen due to diminished lung capacity from
years of smoking.

Although I feel bad he is ill I don't feel bad about taking his job
since he put himself in that situation.

I don't think most smokers care whether they ruin someone else's air
space. My sister is a "considerate" smoker. We are booked on FOTS next
April. If smoking is still allowed on the balcony, she will only smoke
with our cabin door shut and, if someone is on their balcony on either
side of us, she will go somewhere where no one is around.
