Spoken with all the sincerity of a colonialist explaining that it's
okay to steal someone else's land and dictate every facet of his life
because you're doing it "for his own good". (The poor little savage
simply doesn't know any better.)

WTF? I have nothing to do with any empire.

Your culture is not theirs, and your automatic assumption that yours
must be superior -and that you're therefore qualified to judge between
them- is amazingly arrogant.

There are cultural customs which are not acceptable. In India widows
used to be burned, KKK used to hunt negroes, in Africa there is female
circumcision, Gypsies used to be slaves in Europe, women not allowed
to do a lot of things in Saudi Arabia. Local customs you know.

BTW, I do not consider Spain a backward country.

There is a lot of bull throwing here.

Try Hemingway and "Death in the Afternoon."

There is no such thing as offensive cleavage. YMMV.

Spanish matador Julio Aparicio needed two operations after he was
horrifically gored through the throat during a bullfight in Madrid.
The half-ton bull, called Opiparo, struck after Julio Aparicio lost
his footing and stumbled while carrying out a pass with is red cape
in a packed Las Ventas bullring.
One of the animal's horns tore into his throat and punched through
the bottom of his mouth as the crowd screamed in horror at the
bullfight last night.

Impaled: Span

And we are to feel sorry for the Matador when we all know what they
do to the bulls?

I dont feel sorry for the aholes who keep building and living in
flood plains and who keep losing their houses here in the US either.

Maybe we should feel sorry for you.

Huh? The Spanish conquistadors were the most brutal colonists in the
history of man.

The Aztecs were all sweetness and light of course, even their slaves
like Malinche loved them and they had remarkable achievements including
open-heart surgery.

I assume that later on we'll be asked to support your candidacy for the
"Non-Sequitur of the Year" award. Ridiculing or denouncing an aspect of a
nation's "culture" isn't remotely the same as compelling them, by force of
arms, to change it. But as someone with brains enough to use a camera, you
knew that, right?

Arguable. The US Cavalry sure tried to beat that record.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Allen saying
something like:

There is if you're an Australian feminist harpy with a good moustache.

Then they got their arses kicked and had to resort to taking it out on
the bulls.

Bah. The only horrific aspect to any of this is that bullfighting is allowed
in any allegedly civilized country. I feel, I guess, some sympathy for the
matador's family, but the matador himself got no more than he richly deserved.

Bob

No country with Spanish people as a majority ever showed any civilized
traits at all. Cock and dog fighting in the U.S. (illegal) primarily
a Latino sport, South America, Central America, Mexico, the
Philippines, they are all pest-holes and the reason is Spanish
influence.
