cheapest way to stay
hi guys,
I am an ametuer traveller. I want to travel and actually stay (for lets say a week) at couple of places but I don't know whats the cheapest yet graceful way to stay. Hotels and Resorts are too costly for me. and moreover I will be alone so there is no point going for 2 bedroom rooms. Do they have some student dorms or something like that which wont cost me a fortune? Or is there anything like renting an appartment for a week or so. Specifically I am planning to travel florida beaches so if someone knows any cheap way to stay in florida, please let me know. and other suggestions are also welcome.. thanks, ~maldoror |

Check out the Hostelling International website: http://www.hihostels.com/openHome.sma BTW don't know how old yoiu are but you only have to be a youth at heart to stay there. I am 59 and use them regularly. Gerrit |

You will basically have to compromise with how close you want to be to beaches in Florida and how much you want to pay. Even hostels within a few feet of a beach will be more costly than those where the beach is a half hour ride away. The average rate off season in Key West is $100.00 per night during season figure around $195 for the same room. (1 bed, a/c, pvt. bath, in-room fridge for example). In Fort Lauderdale that same room might be $70.00 per night and during season $125.00 per night. Miami, double the prices of Fort Lauderdale. Most hostels are not near the beach. There's one in Miami near the inland waterway. I don't know where one is in Ft. Lauderdale. Avg. rates for a hostel are considerably less but they are very no frills. Bath is shared, rooms are dormitory style with upto 6 beds in a room. I don't know of any that offer security lock-up for your valuables, so I would keep them on my person at all times. The one hostel in Key West is within bicycling distance of Smather's Beach. Off season you can get an upgraded room with fewer beds and semi-private bath for $40.00 a night. BTW except for those who work in the Travel Industry, we're all amatures. :-) -- ________ To email me, Edit "xt" from my email address. Brian M. Mostly you'll be sharing a room and paying about $20-30 per night. miguel -- Hundreds of travel photos from around the world: http://travel.u.nu/ |

I've had great success with www.priceline.com . at first I was a little scared off by the fact that youhave to bid on rooms and supply a credit card number but it works just fine THe problem is that if your bid is unsuccessful you cannot re-bid for 72 hours unless you change soemthing about the bid other than price soooooooooo..... 1. Decide on the area of the city where you most want to stay 2. Enter a low bid for that area If you get it, great but if not 3. Expand your search to include your second choice of area adn increase th bid slightly 4. COntinue the process until you reach your limit or you run aout of areas in your resort of choice (not, many smaller places are not divided into areas in which case go to 5) 5. Wait 72 hrs and if youare prepared to do so, up your bid slightly. In this way I have found I can regualrly get rooms in the Union Square district of San Francisco (not a notoriously cheap destination!) for $40 -45 per night. The hotels are clean and respectable andoffer everything that I need. Good luck and happy bidding -- Posted via http://britishexpats.com |

It depends on where and when, but in summer it's possible to stay on-campus
at many colleges and uni's. I never see them mentioned here in this group, but they're inexpensive and not a bad way to go. "maldoror" wrote in message om... hi guys, I am an ametuer traveller. Is it possible to rent a outfitted camper? You could drive it during
the day, and sleep in the back. DKM On 9 Feb 2004 16:49:12 -0800, (maldoror) wrote: hi guys, I am an ametuer traveller. If you can get a cheap car rental, then buying a cheap tent and camping equipment might save money. That's what I ended up doing, although I used my own car. -------- Barbara Vaughan My email address is my first initial followed by my last name at libero dot it. |
