Hi Michael,

There are a lot of hotels and B&Bs in the area near the Kruger park. For
example, see:
http://www.ananzi.co.za/catalog/Trav...dB/Mpumalanga/ of
some other search engine result for "accommodation Nelspruit".

Johannesburg to Nelspruit is 355 Km (approximately 3-4 hours travel). It is
a very quick drive from Nelspruit to the south of Kruger. I suggest you get
a good map before leaving the airport which includes: roads from
Johannesburg to Kruger; map of Nelspruit; map of Kruger park, although I
think you will be given a map on entry. I'm sure there is a shop at the
airport that sells such maps. Ask at the car rental counter.

The road from Johannesburg International towards Kruger Park is the N4
eastbound. You will not have to traverse Johannesburg as the airport is on
the east side of the city and the N4 is directly accessible. Ask someone at
the car rental to carefully explain which of the exits to take. There are
tolls to pay on this road, so make sure you have South African Rands
available on leaving the airport. You can change travelers cheques at the
airport of withdraw money at one on the ATMs.

Safety should not be a problem at the Nelspruit accommodation and certainly
not at the Kruger Park. Of course you should never leave your car in the
park except at designated sites. Also keep your windows up if baboons are
milling around your car.

Be ready for some high temperatures. (Make sure the car has air
conditioning!) The expected temperature for southern Kruger Park today is
37C

See http://www.weathersa.co.za/medfcast/mpa2.html for a 7 day forecast for
Mpumulanga lowveld (the region is which the south of the Kruger Park is
situated).

Enjoy your trip!

Regards,

Clive Reid

I can recommend the Holiday Inn hotel. Quite nice and not too expensive.
Excellent breakfast!
