Seeking hotel recomendations in Venice on the Grand Canal
Hello,
We're going to take the plunge! It's Venice in the off-season for my wife and I,in December. Since -I'm- the net geek, I'm trying to get things lined up via Internet - before we go. Ideally, we'd like a room with a view (or even a balcony) on the Grand Canal, and since this is off season, I'm hoping it's affordable. We're wondering if other readers out there that may have recent hotel recommendations or info or insight on finding accommodations on the Canal or any other relevant Venice related info that would be good to have before going. I've seen some of the booking engines, but they are sometimes slanted in their descriptions, so I'm looking for direct recommendations from real people who have been there recently! Thanks for your reply! Joe |

I enjoyed my stay at Locanda ai Santi Apostoli and they have two rooms
on the canal. While they aren't over the top expensive they do quote those rooms as 250-330 euro which is expensive for me even at the lower end. The location is near the Ca d'Oro. http://www.locandasantiapostoli.com/english-prices.htm There is a small balcony off the lounge if you are in one of the other rooms. Not deluxe but a nice place. You might get a better price with a place with a view but not on the Grand Canal. C. Osbourne wrote: Hello, We're going to take the plunge! If you can settle for a view on the Giudecca Canal instead of the Grand Canal, try La Calcina, http://www.lacalcina.com/ In December, it's 151 Euro including a very nice buffet breakfast, which is probably considerably less than most rooms on the Grand Canal. We like La Calcina a lot. It's in Dorsoduro, slightly off the beaten path, so it's far less frenetic than places around San Marco, but it's only a 15 minutes walk away. Its only downside is that there's no elevator. -- Ken Blake Please reply to the newsgroup |
