Default Never use Royal Caribbean Cruises

They charge for very LARGE upfront gratuities.
The service is terrible.

Waste of money !

Other cruise lines are far far better.

Never listen to people who say, "NEVER take a ___________ Cruise."
If you want to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise go and do it, if not hey
DON'T.
We'vebeen on 2 Carnival and2 Royal Caribbean (one actually the other
will be in Feb 2008).

I am sorry to hear that you didn't like Royal Caribbean. We have gone on it
about three times and loved every time. But it has been a couple of years
since the last time we were on that line and have booked a cruise in
December for another. This time we are taking our son to celebrate his
birthday. I hope it hasn't changed so much. We will be on Sovereign and
since it is his first cruise and his birthday, we booked the Junior Suite at
the top. I hope we won't be disappointed.

That's exactly correct ... personally I'm not a RCI fan ... but that
has to do with their high public space/private space ratio and overall
size ... leaving a beautiful ice rink ... a spectacular ship ... but
smaller rooms on the average ... but there are those who love that
ice rink ... and are rightly wowed by the ship ...
Their service food and other amenities are fine ... I may have my
personal reasons for not sailing RCI ... but I'd never tell someone
else not to ... because that may very well be the best cruise for
them ...

I have had a different experience with a nice trip and good service, in fact
excellent service. It's fun to waste money on a cruise. The alternative to
a cruise is to stay at home. Sorry you had a bad time. I hope your next
trip is wonderful.

Ohh, sorry you had such a bad experience. We just returned from an
Alaskan Cruise with them, and thought it was great. No up front
charges for gratuities, tipping at the end was voluntary. We felt the
service was great.

We are planning another cruise with them sometime this winter. Hope
you have better luck in the furture.

I think you mean NCL. They charge your credit card up front for
gratuities. Royal Caribbean does not charge you for gratuities. It is
completely voluntary, though you may elect to put the gratuities on your
credit card, there is no reason you can't give cash or not at all.

As for terrible service the worst shipboard service and most
inefficient, ill-trained crew was aboard my last NCL cruise to Alaska in
July of 05. Turned me off the line for keeps. We were constantly
assaulted with sales announcements on the PA, the Freestyle dining was a
nightmare and the one time we went to a specialty restaurant the service
was non existent.

The service aboard that ship was so awful that I went to the purser and
asked that the gratuities be credited back on my charge card. They did.

I believe that gratuities should be earned by offering good service. I
got none aboard the NCL ship and I wasn't going to pay for bad service.

I have to also agree with you about NCL. Service before and during the
cruise was terrible for the last one we took in Jan - 06 on them.
Absolutely no one would talk about their screw-up on reservations. Never
received ANY response from a certified, return receipt letter sent to the
President of the company other than the receipt that it was received. Never
again after being a loyal fan of theirs since the old Sunward II days. This
travel agent also won't recommend them to anyone else.
