Should Donald Trump Be Fired?
NEW YORK, March 31, 2004

Reality TV star and real estate mogul Donald Trump is facing a major
financial crisis.

Barring a bailout, Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts may not be able to
continue as a “going concern,” auditors for Ernst & Young LLP warned
in a letter to the company's board of directors.

Trump's three hotel-casinos in Atlantic City haven't earned a profit
in seven years, and lost $87 million last year.

The Donald, as the mogul is known, has achieved renewed celebrity
through the hit reality TV show, "The Apprentice." Each week, Trump
eliminates one contestant from a team that fails to make as much money
as a competing team.

The loser is summoned to a bogus boardroom built for the show and
dismissed by Trump, who looks at the loser and announces, "You're
fired." Trump is now trying to trademark that phrase.

Trump Hotels, which carries $1.8 billion in debt, has been unable to
finance major capital improvements at its Atlantic City properties at
a time when competitors have been luring away gamblers.

Last month, Trump announced that Credit Suisse First Boston had agreed
to make a $400 million cash infusion into the company in exchange for
a controlling stake. The deal would result in Trump's removal as chief
executive officer. He would stay on as chairman.

The Credit Suisse deal hinges on whether bondholders will agree to the
recapitalization. Asked Tuesday if he thought they would, Trump said:
"We'll find out. We'll see what happens."

One analyst said the auditors' warning came as no surprise.

"Their cash flow is going one way and their interest expenses are
rising," said analyst Jim Gentrup, of Provident Equity Research.
"They're just drowning in debt. They recognize it, though. It's not
like Donald is standing still. He's doing something about it."

Interesting news.

With his "Apprentice" show doing very well and obviously being used to promote
various Trump properties/products/services, it multiplies the value of the
"Trump" branding many many times.

I had wondered why Trump decided to take the time to do this series. But now I
know. It is a tactic to help save his empire.

The tidbit about the boardroom being fake is interesting because it also
confirms that the loft is also fake (this one is more obvious when you look at
the ceiling of that loft, the way it is furnished and the fact that no loft
would be designed for 6 people). Consider also that the boardroom is located
on a floor where "another tenant is building their offices" (during one
episode you could hear the working banking away with saws, hammers etc).

Generally, a conference room that leads directly to the elevator hallway would
be on a dedicated floor. If the floor is to be shared with other tenants, the
elevators lead to a "neutral" hallway. But in this case, perhaps even the
elevators are fake.

What this tells me is that his famous trump towers doesn't have 100% occupancy
rate. When you consider the loss of millions of square feet when WTC went
down, it is interesting that trump would have spare space on his building that
could be used as a studio.

I'll bet there's about a million businessmen in NYC and elsewhere who
would jump at the chance to fire The Donald ... with a death squad.

This may happen. Donald has a massive debt load, growing recurring expenses
and a serious cash flow problem.
Barring some major increase in current revenue streams, or the creation of
new sources of revenue, Donald has to either sell off or borrow money. His
problem is that any one who loans him that much money will probably want an
equal or controlling interest in his business.

Bottom line, if you're an aspiring apprentice, you might want to tell Donald
to kiss your ass and go try to find a job with a company president with
better prospects of retaining control of his/her company.

And people wonder why Donald Trump wanted to do "The Apprentice" Please,
it's one big
Donald Trump Commercial every week. If he's not bragging about some
accomplishment he did, he's showing his new projects that are on the go.
From the first episode I thought "Trump must be in some serious financial
crap to have to raise his popularity, and advertise his businesses on TV via
Reality TV"
