Default Ideal island?

If you had a choice which island would you choose to live/travel if
you limited yourself to english-speaking islands?

A place that no one will mention. ;-) Really, do you think I want people
mobbing our favorite spot(s)?

If you're really planning to live some place new, investigate
everywhere, build a short list and then go rent in those places for at
least a month. Once you've built your very-short list, do it again for
six months apiece.

I'd say the same thing if you were asking about Florida. It's one thing
to visit a place, an entirely different thing to live there. You should
get to know the people you're going to live with.

I was just curious about what other people thought. I am quite
content where I live and don't intend to move but thanks anyways.

No, I missed that but I agree Dominica is a nice place and I plan to

I didn't know Manhattan was in carribean! I had rather be in one of
the French islands if I didn't restrict my search for travel spots.

Nice place but not in carribean and also you can't hop to other places
as there isn't much in close proximity.

Bermuda

You didn't specify the Caribbean except by inference in the title of
the newsgroup. And since Bermuda isn't really in any area, it is
often written about under the Caribbean since there are similar
characteristics to many Caribbean islands. Ditto the Bahamas.

You didn't say anything about island hopping so I didn't take that
into account - I was assuming that you wanted just one island, not a
group. If you had specified island hopping, I would have said the BVI
and/or USVI.

You only specified
1) Island
2) English speaking
3) Where we would like to live/travel and live/travel isn't really a
specification at all since where I would pick to live and where I
would pick to travel are different. Actually I would not want to live
in the Caribbean - I love traveling there, but I would not want to
live there, even in an English speaking place.

The English speaking/Anglophone places that one might consider would
include Belize (except that's not an island), Puerto Rico which is a
US commonwealth but has both Spanish and English as official
languages, Bermuda, Bahamas, and islands actually in the Caribbean
-Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands,
Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, USVI,
Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,
Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Of those I have been to Bermuda, Belize, Puerto Rico, Bahamas,
Barbados, BVI, and USVI. I'm going to Dominca, St. Kitts in December.

So far, my favorite is Bermuda.
