Default Nice Munich hotel for Oktoberfest?

Hello,

My father really enjoyed Munich when he was there for business. He's
turning 60 and I decided to take him there for Oktoberfest as a present.
Since I don't travel much, I don't mind busting the piggy bank for this one.
I was in Munich 6 years ago and stayed at the Kempinski Hotel Vier
Jahreszeiten. I remeber that it was beautiful and well located for tourism.
I'm wondering how well located it is for the festival and how close is it to
the train station? Walking distance to either?

Does anyone else have a better suggestion? I've heard people reference the
Hotel Bayerischer Hof. How does that compare? Does either offer on-site
self-parking?

Finally, is there any way to book to get the best rate on overseas hotels?
I assume that since I'm booking so late, I'm pretty much screwed, but I
thought I'd ask.

Thanks for any help,
BoB

We were able to get a gorgeous room at the Rafael Mandarin Oriental at
the last minute a couple of years ago. This is a wonderful smaller
hotel not too far from the View Jahrezeiten and right behind the
Hofbräuhaus. I have stayed at all three and this is my favorite, but
if you can get a resv at any of these, go for it! The Bayerische Hof
is the closest to the fairgrounds, but you will still need a taxi or
U-Bahn to Marienplatz or Odeonsplatz for any of these.

Any hotels closer to the fairgounds are most likely fully booked and
not nearly as nice as the ones mentioned above.

What a wonderful present - lucky dad! I wish you luck and start
looking for a room right now!!
