Royal Caribbean & New Hong Kong Terminal!
Hi Everyone,
I thought this Chinese newspaper article discussing Royal Caribbean and the proposed new Hong Kong Cruise Terminal would be of interest. http://tinyurl.com/moydd If you have missed any of my news' postings, they are available on my web site. Are they going to bus people to the tourist areas once they arrived? Is the existing terminal not enough? If RCCL made stops at Hong Kong before 9/11, why do they need the new terminal before they will resume their cruises there? |

Ray, how much do they need to spend for other facilities to support the terminal? The cruise ship piers are now next to the Star Ferry in Kowloon -- a short bus or taxi ride to many sightseeing places in Kowloon; and a HK$2 (about 25 cents USD) ferry will take one to the Central city of Hong Kong. To build a cruiseship pier near the airport? The cruiseships will probably charge passengers $100 USD for the transportation to Hong Kong or Kowloon, rather than a fraction of the cost to take the airport train. Either case, it's like proposing to build a Manhattan cruiseship pier in New Haven, Conn, and have the passengers take the commuter train to Manhattan. Forget about other questions. Ray has accomplished what HE wanted -- just another piece of junk mail posted to get his AD for his Travel Agency in. -- Reef Fish Bob. |

I believe they want to build the cruise terminal at the old airport and not the current one. As I recall, there is nothing for tourist to do/see around the old airport. It shouldn't cost much to take a taxi from there to central part of Hong Kong but with 1000's of PAX all at once??? |

I am showing my ignorance here, but wasn't the Kai Tak airport out on the Kowloon peninsula? As of a few months ago, it was a bitch to get from Kowloon City to the shopping areas of MonKok on/around Nathan as the MTR goes all around the old airport, but not to it. Of course, I could be mistaken as I really wasn't all that interested in going out to the old airport. I think the current drop point at TsimShaTsui is a FAR more convenient spot ... walking distance to LOTS of fun stuff! The current cruise terminal (Ocean Terminal) is nicely located. They may be able to build a new terminal at the old airport in 5 years but will take much longer to have everything else built for the tourists. |
