Default Biometric Passport

I've just received my new biometric passport.
My travel partner received hers a few days ago, and hers doesn't have the
chip and printed aerial loop which is laminated behind the photo page.
Took about 3 weeks from initial application which included a bank holiday
and my having to re-submit my portrait, without spectacles. Initial
portrait with minor highlights in spectacles had been accepted as OK at the
local main PO, but rejected at Peterborough.

Did the PO charge you to check your application ?
If so I hope you will sue them for millions :-)
(or at least ask for your money back)

Yes, of course they charged me*, and being anally insecure I opted for
paid-for secure delivery of my old passport - which I found had been
delivered without a signature being required from me, or anyone else. Its
envelope looked as though it had been opened and resealed. So there you
go - another stealth tax.
(*But if I worried about that sort of thing I couldn't afford to be taking a
holiday at all g)

And, I used their regulation photo booth which obviously has lighting so
placed that reflections or highlights easily occur. I wear anti-reflection
coated bifocals and my prescription isn't that strong, so it should be
possible to place the lights so that subjects sitting at the correct (and
indicated) height can be photographed without problem. (A more diffuse
lightsource might make a difference.)

I checked my passport under a cheap UV light last night (security mark
detector type), and was interested to see how well the slightly embossed
laminate glowed in the dark with my mugshot being surrounded by a quite
elaborate framework. Some other pages in the book also fluoresced quite
strongly with a design, and there are fluorescent specs on each of the VISA
pages. All VISA pages are now perforated with the passport number. So
quite a difference from my last passport.

Whether you get a Bio passport on not is down to luck
ATM.. I didn't.

I decided that a phopo sans glasses was the safest option.

I can always take my glasses off at the desk if required.
I can't remove them from the photo.
