Default The Wave, Paria - condition, Nov 11, 2004

This is a quick report of my trip to the Wave, Paria, on Nov 10 and 11th,
2004:

House Rock Road
- The road is blocked by mud at the Buckskin wash due to recent rain
- The road block is about 4 miles south of Hwy 89, another 4 miles south
from the road block will take you to the Wire Pass parking (Wave trailhead)
- Hiking from the road block to the trailhead (4 miles) will take about an
hour
- Due to deep mud and sharp dropoff on either side (3+ feet of mud?) of the
wash, no vehicle (SUVs included) can cross the wash (those attempted were
towed out later, and expensive mistake)
- There is an alternative crossing nearby, I managed to cross it no problem
in a 4x4 (cars will not make it)
- If you drive all around Page, AZ, and come in from Hwy 89A south-to-north,
it will take you about 4 to 5 extra hours, and there will be 2 crossings to
make after you get on House Rock road, both were clear with some mud on Nov
10/11 (cars will have difficulties, 4x4 no problem)
- My guess is this road block will not be cleared until spring due to winter
season (this is just my opinion)

The Wave
- BLM erected a new sign for "Coyote Buttes" along the Wire Pass wash, about
5-10min walk from the trailhead
- This sign will eliminate 80 to 90% of problems in getting on the right
track towards the Wave, will help first timer Wave seekers
- This sign points out the old jeep road that leads you up towards the
permit area and the register box
- there is a relatively large pool at the Wave, plenty of other pools in the
area due to recent rain (Nov 10/11)

Ray
