Koala in Australia

In the wild on Magnetic Island ...accessed from Townsville Queensland ....and "Maggie," for practical purposes, is a suburb of Townsville. It's an easy trip by ferry. The recommended koala-spotting area is along a moderate uphill hike to "the forts" (leftover from WWII). Magnetic Island's wildlife also includes a bird, the bush stone-curlew, which is rare on the mainland and described as "nocturnal" and "cryptic". On the island, however, one came right over to my cafe table to beg for chips in broad daylight. (No, I didn't oblige.) Nancy |

There used to be koalas there but they were badly hit in the January bush fires and I am not sure how much they have yet recovered. __________________________________________________ ____________ Keith Sayers, Canberra, Australia Mail : 6 Clambe Place, CHARNWOOD, ACT 2615 http://www.pcug.org.au/~kmsayers -------------------------------------------------------------- |

Koala in Australia
"j-p Gobert" wrote in message m... hi, Could anyone help me giving me a clue to see koala in Australia Thanks j-p Gobert Ath Belgium If you're anywhere near East Gippsland (Bairnsdale - about 3hours from Melb) go to Paynesville, take the ferry to Raymond Island, and walk/drive around the bush tracks - it's a small island, easily navigated if you're more or less fit, but renowned for its koala population. Well worth a visit. Then have a meal at The Paynesville Pub - also wwav! Grandad |

Be warned that if you dislike the smell of eucalyptus oil... |
