Default Pacific Northwest trip in late Aug/early Sept.

I'm attending a wedding in Seattle during Labor Day weekend, so I'm
thinking about taking off the whole week before that to visit places in
the Pacific Northwest. I definitely would like to visit Vancouver, and
end the trip in Seattle.

Since I'll have about 9 days, how much time would you recommend that I
allocate for Vancouver and Seattle? Also, would Portland or any other
nearby place be worth seeing?

Vancouver can use up several days. You can take the ferry to Victoria and
use up a couple more. Mt. Rainer may be worth a day. Portland has a great
zoo. Oregon has a great coast with a major highway running full length.

You seem more interested in cities. Is that correct? Because otherwise that
time of year is great for sightseeing in the mountains, the seashore, and
the islands. And much as I like Seattle, Vancouver, and Portland and their
natural settings, the great outdoors is the most outstanding thing about
this part of the country.

However, with 9 days (probably 8 days not counting the wedding), you can
keep busy in just Vancouver and Seattle.
