A newspaper article of Helsingin Sanomat reveals today that since the
murders of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King in 1968 more US Americans
have died in "civilian" shootings than in all wars combined during the US
history. Isn't this dandy. Isn't this crazy.

There were two socialist camps fighting each others during WWII: national
socialists and bolshevik socialists. Finns fought against the communists
while Americans fought hand in hand with them. Should we say Americans and
Russians were Kameraden. All this has been off topic, of course.

That's easy. Because they hated the Russians, not because they liked
the Nazis. A marriage of convenience.

And necessity, since the Germans were going to send troops to
Finland anyway. The Russians had already invaded Finland before
in 1939 and been brought to a standstill that took territory away
from Finland, so the Finns had no qualms about fighting the
Russians again. Cooperation with the Germans did keep the Germans
from taking over the country and kept the Russians from taking
even more of Finland, maybe even the whole country as they did
with the Baltic states.

Famously, cooperation wasn't complete. For instance, Finnish
Marshal Mannerheim refused to round up even the few Jews Finland
had.

This was something political. A reasonable decision though. More
importantly, Germans urged the Finnish military to operate in "genuinely"
Russian territory (siege of Uljanovgrad was one such campaign).

Perhaps it is because, like the Baltic states, they faced a greater threat
for the Soviets.
