Default Celebrity cancels Gibraltar stop

Just returned home from the Millennium repositioning cruise from Ft.
Lauderdale to Barcelona. Excellent cruise in every regard. The itinerary was
supposed to be Ft.
Lauderdale-Bermuda-Funchal-Lisbon-Gibraltar-Malaga-Barcelona. When we left
Lisbon the Captain came on the PA and informed us we were going to Cadiz
rather than to Gibraltar. He also told us we were going to Morocco after
Cadiz to be refueled by tender since the original refueling was planned for
Gibraltar.

The reason we were given, was that another cruise ship had just been denied
to enter the port of Barcelona because it had been to Gibraltar just prior.
Celebrity was worried that the same thing would happen to us so the
Gibraltar stop was canceled. Turned out the refueling stop in Morocco was
actually at the small Spanish settlement in North Afica just accross from
Gibraltar.

Cadiz turned out to be very nice, but wish we could have gotten to Gib.

Hi Robert,

Yes, this is accurate. Spain is playing hard ball with the UK in
regards to Gibraltar. I posted details of this a week or 2 ago here
on r.t.cruises.

The real solution is for the cruise companies to go to Gibraltar and
ignore Spain, or proceed via Morocco.

Its a very pathetic tactic when both Gibraltar and Spain are part of the
EU (Gibraltar joining in 1973, Spain later) but in line with their
policy of delays at the frontier and restricting telephone connections.

BOYCOTT SPAIN.
