we were on it feb 2004, and march 2005 ... and couldn't really see much in
the way of changes since last year.

no johnny rockets... but they did give a facelift to the upper floor of the
windjammer restaurant. they spiffed up the 'pizza bar', making it look
like a separate restaurant.

On Sovereign, a sister ship, Johnny Rockets shares space with the pizza
place.

jade's still in back of windjammer on 11, operates as an extra cost dining
choice.

It's actually "in front"; that's the front of the boat. It's in back of
the Windjammer only from the sense that the entrance to Windjammer is at
the rear.

the itinerary works for us. our teenagers enjoy this trip, as they always
have this week off in february.

cheers

A look at the deck plans on RCI website doesn't seem to show a Johnny
Rockets but does show Jade.

Peter,

I do agree with what you say, for unlike some other comments I received, you
do seem to understand the situation. Naturally, I will not even exercise the
thought of breaking any client confidentially, just so a few others with
this newsgroup can satisfy their doubts, for even a general observation
could come to the conclusion that one could simply be trying to receive some
extra compensation. Likewise, it all well and good that some others who just
happened to sail on this ship, but on a different date, experienced no
problems or issues whatsoever. Yet, we're not talking about their cruise,
were talking about what others apparently experienced on their cruise.

However, I personally know the people in question, and have no reason to
doubt their honesty. Likewise, they simply brought these issues to the
attention of Royal Caribbean International (RCI), but actually did not ask
for anything in return. Besides, these 12 people where just a small part of
a larger group of 43 I booked on the same ship, but these cabins just
happened to be adjacent to one other, for they were personal family members.
No one else within their entire group experienced any problems or issues
whatsoever, but even so, it would not be that hard for RCI to verify many of
the issues that they bring up.

I simply brought up the issue with RCI myself, even though the client wrote
their own letter, for I too feel these are some serious issues that need to
be addressed. Likewise, I was initially in communication with my District
Sales Manager, and it was his suggestion that I follow up myself with a
personal agency letter to RCI Customer Service.

Other than receiving a personal insult as a result of my communication to
this newsgroup, by an apparent know-it-all who seems to add something
personal to every other post, I do thank your for your understanding,
professionalism and to the degree of confidentially needed in such a post.

John,
I am truly amazed that you indicated that there was no response from Royal
Caribbean. I have found them to be very responsive to customer complaints,
especially when they have been illuminated by an agent. I would be
speaking
with your district sales manager and on the phone with the president's
office if I did not receive a timely response to verifiable complaint of
the
magnitude of what you have described.

Some restitution is definitely in order here.

I think they need a bit more than a Jonny Rockets, new carpet, new
casino,
etc.; just read what my clients experienced who where on this ship for
the
January 27, 2006 cruise.

"My family and I took the 3 day cruise from Los Angeles to Ensenada on
the
Monarch of the Seas on Jan. 27, 06. There were 12 of us traveling in the
following cabins: 4021, 4023, 4025 and 4527."

"There were several concerns that we all feel need to be addressed by
Royal
Caribbean. The most unacceptable was the fact that our cabins did not
have
electricity for nearly half of the time we were aboard. We complained
and
repeatedly phoned housekeeping and maintenance to no avail. We were told
that there was a problem with the fuses and that it was being worked on.
We
were without water for several hours... this meant no shower before
dinner.
There was also a problem when one of the children was sick in the night
and
there was limited light (at the time half of the cabin had power) - nor
was
there any hot water to bath them (water had been restored by then - it
just
wasn't warm). It was awful cleaning up a sick child in cold water - not
a
fond memory."

"The swimming pool which the children had looked forward to using was
only
filled for one day. Why??? The BINGO board had electric problems... the
MC
told us that it was to be fixed next time they were in port. The karaoke
machines (words to songs) were not working. One of the 'exciting'
seminars
available on the ship was really a sales pitch on spending money to have
your teeth whitened. Not good."

"The ship was in immediate need of general cosmetic maintenance. Rails
in
hallways were loose, ceiling fixtures damaged, frayed carpeting, etc.
Even
the children asked "why is the ship worn out and broken?". Those words,
coming from a child's view must tell Royal Caribbean something they need
to
know and act on."

"I must say that the dining room wait staff was wonderful as was our
cabin
steward - but - the ship was unacceptable."

"We are all Crown and Anchor Members and have cruised with Royal
Caribbean
in the past. I will be anxious to hear a response from your offices."

As a side note, I already re-booked many of these people on another 3-day
cruise, but this time they all wanted Carnival Cruise Lines instead.
Likewise, I have long since filed my own complaint with our Royal
Caribbean
International's District Sales Manager and Customer Service. The most
puzzling thing to me is, even thought many complaints were lodged during
this cruise by my clients, RCI not once offered to provide any type of
compensation for their inconvenience, which in essence could be
considered a
health issue.

I am just in the process of putting up my pictures but coincidentally,
it appears that we were in the same suite that you were, 1044. We
just got back last Friday. I'm still working on mine right now and I
want to go back and look at yours to compare. As soon as I get mine
posted, I'll repost with the url.

In any case, and considering that the ship had just been in for the
quick refurb, we found that everything was in really excellent
condition--possible exception of the public restrooms and they were
hit and miss as far as functioning. I saw the post about the problems
shortly before we left so I was a little leery but we just didn't see
much, if anything, like they described. I was kind of keeping an eye
out for anything that looked like it was in disrepair or broken or
just old looking and I didn't notice anything at all. We met a few
other passengers aboard but didn't hear any complaints from anyone
else about problems either. Maybe just timing or maybe a lot got
fixed. I'd thought maybe the bathrooms in our room were updated since
there is nearly always evidence of wear in corners or around caulk but
ours was really nice and clean.
