Default CARNIVAL LIBERTY(LONG)

Well we made it back,we started off by going a day ahead of time, said it
before, and say it again, but this time i mean it,will never ever fly
southwest again, arrived at the airport 3&1/2 hr's before flight time
only to find out we were in line C,seems every one is getting their
boarding passes on line.
next got to ft.lauderdale, got a cab,and he took
us on a merry ride,we were at the same hotel twice before,so we knew how
to get there,it costs $12.50,our driver took us all through downtown, and
when we questioned him about it,was told he knew where we were going, got
to the HOLIDAY INN by the beach cab fare $24.00 my husband showed him
the road right outside the hotel, and said that is the one that leads
directly to & from the airport. He
agreed and then charged us 15.00 ,needless to say we did not tip him.
After signing in we got a room ,and we were exhausted,we got a beer, and
some dinner, and hit the sack at 9.30 p.m.
I woke up at 11 p.m.i felt like a spider was crawling on my face, when we
got up to see,my bed was crawling with bedbugs. We called the front desk
and asked for another room, they said we were imagining it,we told them
to come up and see for themselves,by this time we were out side the room
with our luggage, they went inside lit the big lights, and saw they were
even crawling on the wall.We spent the night in another room, but were
afraid to sleep. DAY 1/
embarkation was a fiasco,no organization,took from 11.am until1.45 to
get on the ship.the line was so very long, and kept winding around &
around. We are sure we will not sail carnival again. The ship is very
gaudy, lots of forever changing colored lights. Not one place to
get a before or after dinner drink, with some nice music, and a place to
dance,on a few occasions,we could not even get a waiter to serve us,they
were busy catering to all the young girls. My husband hadto go to the bar
several times to get us a drink, and we refused to pay the 15% service
charge,since we got no service,it was only a matter of 5or6 dollars,but
it was the point of the issue. Our
cabin steward was wonderful,he got an extra big tip.Every night i had a
different towel animal on my bed,and he kept the room spotless,The food
was not too bad, about normal for nowadays, except one night our dinner
partner's got the chicken, and it was raw inside,We had a hard time
trying to get beef well done.
The shows were fair, but it seems like all they want to do in the
venitian palace is hold pricey bingo games.
We did find a very nice place to sit on deck 3,but was a jigsaw puzzle
figuring out how to get to it,from ur cabin near the middle of the ship
on deck 1,we had to go up to deck 5 walk all the way to the front, then
go down to deck 3. We had some pretty windy days, but we still liked
sitting there. The ship does not ride very well for a large ship,we were
told they had 3500 people on board. All in all we made the best of it,and
we did enjoy the ports. But carnival,no matter what they say is still
very much a party ship. They still nickel and dime you to death with art
auctions,gold & silver by the inch,and casino,casino,casino.
Hope we do better on the NCL WIND in april. They have dining other than
traditional,we did not get a table for 8 like we asked for,but got a
table for 4 in the silver dining room.We were very lucky and had very
good table mates.Could have done with out all the singing and dancing at
dinner time y the staff. It was dne right after you ordered dessert, and
the people at our table several times got half melted ice cream, but they
would not send it back, they were very easy going people.

So why didn't you get your boarding passes online then? I used
Southwest this past December and was in group A both flights. Got
online 24 hours before the flight to Orlando and used the internet
onboard the ship and to get my boarding pass for Group A for the flight
back.

Charles,

I am trying to be sensitive to Annie's problems, and they may stem from the
fact that she uses WebTV and she may not know how to use Southwest's online
check in.

I have never and probably never will fly Southwest, but maybe you could have
tried to explain the procedure to Annie rather than put her down for not
understanding how it works.

I asked why she didn't do online check in and get group A because she
knew about this from a previous discussion. When she complained before
about Southwest it was explained to do the online check in. Since she
didn't do it, I can't see any validity in her complaint. Of course she
got group C since she didn't do it online and waited until she got to
the airport. Ergo, the problem was of her own making. Stupid is as
stupid does.

They explain how to do it in on the website. It has also been explained
here on the newsgroup, I think in response Annies previous complaint.
But I'll explain. It is simple. 24 hours before the flight on their
website, type in the confirmation number. Type in your first name. Type
in your last name. Then click the retrieve reservation button. Not
difficult. You can then print out your boarding pass, but if you don't
have a printer, like I did not on the ship for the return flight, it
doesn't matter. You can print the boarding pass you generated from your
online check in 24 hours in advance, at one of the Southwest kiosks at
the airport when you get there.

I wish I had your cab driver. The one I had barely spoke English and
didn't know how to get to my hotel even though I gave him the address
and explained it was just south of the Broward Mall. He knew where the
mall was, but he had trouble locating 6th Street. (Hint: It's between
5th and 7th streets.)

I was actually pleased by the start time since I was told embarkation
was from 1:30 to 3:30. The port's website also recommended not
arriving before noon. I agree it could have been better organized,
though.

The only complaints I had about the trip weren't the fault of Carnival
itself since the weather caused the Grand Cayman trip to be shortened
(leaving at 2:30 instead of 5:30) and the Costa Maya trip canceled
roughly an hour after we arrived. The group I was traveling with told
me the cabins on the Liberty had hair dryers in them. (They didn't.)
Since this was my first cruise, it qualifies as both my best and worst
so far, but overall I was pleased.

If the waiters would sing and dance for one or two nights, I could
handle that, but Carnival seems to do it every night. I agree with you,
Annie, it is too much. And where is my dessert while they are dancing?

Welcome home! I was on the sailing prior to yours. Sorry you had some
unfortunate problems starting out with the airline & hotel. As for
embarkation for our cruise it went pretty smooth. We were at the port
approximately 10:30 or so and walking up the gangway onto the ship by 12
noon!

I will admit your comment on the color changing lighted chandelier in
the atrium lobby and other places of the ship were GAUDY and typical
Vegas like! And your right for a ship this size you could feel a lot of
movement! We had rough seas from Grand Cayman to Costa Maya and the
Liberty 'rocked and rolled' even when in bed we could hear the cabin
walls creaking! We lost 2 hours in Grand Cayman & most of the entire day
in Costa Maya due to the rough seas! How was your weather?

Interesting... one of the few redeeming characteristics of Destiny (at least
for me) was she seemed to handle the rough seas from NYC up to Halifax very
well. We had some typical North Atlantic seas and the ship was very smooth.

Since Liberty is one of the larger Destiny sisters, wonder what's different
about her? This may be another example like the Dawn Princess and identical
sister Ocean Princess. Dawn was very stable and Ocean Princess bounced all
over the place.
