Default Traveling down the Pacific Highway

I am going to be cycling down the Pacific Highway from San Fran to
Mexico in August. I was wondering if anybody new the typical climate
for that time of year for the middle two weeks of August. Also, if
someone has done this sort of thing before, did you buy your food
along the way and bring a camping burner to cook it or was it cheaper
to just eat at places along the way. Thanks.
