Default Things to do for kids in Sicily and shopping

We are travelling for two weeks to Sicily in December, doing a round
trip starting and ending in Catania.

We have two girls, 4 and 8 years old. Are there any kids places or
activities, doable at the end of December/beginning of January? Could be
theme parks, fun fairs, ice skating rinks, indoor pools with water
slides, playgrounds, indoor gaming areas in shopping malls etc.

The wife likes shopping (the small girls as well). Are there shopping
malls in the big cities, markets, downtown areas with lots of shops
etc.? Where?

I didn't see malls.

Maybe they'll like some of the ancient ruins?

Otherwise, a lot of gelato, canneloni and granita available.

Unlikely. They are 4 and 8 years old and like fun fairs, toys and
shopping. In every trip I do I have to plan some time spent in kids
places, otherwise the kids don't like it.
