Is this a new line ?

There doesn't seem to be maps on
http://www.ratp.fr/ParisVisite/Eng/Pla_q/f_pla.htm

??

Also is there any benefit/difference between taking the roissybus vs the RER
from Charles de Gaulle to the centre of Paris. The bus seems a fraction
cheaper.

Finally I am looking for 10 unusal things to do in Paris - i.e. touristy
things, but having been there about 20 times before, not the usual touristy
things - Any suggestions ?

Yup.

Entirely automatic, with the ability to stand at the front of the train
where the driver used to be. Also suicide is impossible on that linebecause
there's a wall on the platform with doors which open when the train is in
the station.

It's there. It's the purple one from the Madeleine to Bibliothèque F.
Mitterand

The map does fail to show it now goes from the Madeleine to St. Lazare.

Depends on your taste, final destination, time of day (traffic)...

Default Paris--things to do

If you've been there 20 times, you must have already eaten at Chartier
in the IXe (rue du Faubourg Montmartre). If by some fluke you haven't,
well...you owe it to yourself.

Also, there always used to be a great street market in the Avenue Jean
Jaures in Pantin. Sorry--I don't know if it's still going or, if so,
when it's on.

cheers,

Henry

A recent one. It's on the map. Starts along the Seine, SE of Paris.

Also is there any benefit/difference between taking the roissybus vs the RER

Yes, and a more confortable than the RER especially with heavy pieces of lugage.
But all depends on where you go in Paris.

Finally I am looking for 10 unusal things to do in Paris - i.e. touristy
things, but having been there about 20 times before, not the usual touristy
things - Any suggestions ?

1. Visit the sewer (?) system
2. Visit the catacumb
3. Visit Pere Lachaise (a graveyard) (kind of touristic though)

"Funnier" that 2 and 3:

4. Go to a flee market (Montreuil souk is quite strange, Porte de Vanves is also
neat, avoid Clignancourt and beware of pickpockets!)
5. Visit one of the dispatching centers for the metro
6. Cross Paris on rollers (may want to be trained a this!)
7. Have a wonderful ice cream at Bertillon in Ile-Saint-Louis or one of the
fantastic bread and pastries at Poujauran (near the Eiffel Tower)
8. Spend an evening in a Jazz club. Paris has a lot of these with excellent
programs.
9. Take a one day cruise on the canals in Paris (not the Seine) and outside
10. Visite some of these "small size" museums that are worth the visit indeed:
eg the doll museum, the clock museum, the pinball and other "gaming machine"
museum (use to play the price of the ticket on one of theis amchine: could be
free sometimes!). The list is not limitative...

Bon sejour a Paris.

There are lots of guide books to the more obscure parts of Paris. You could
pursue a theme, like tracking down Art Nouveau architecture in the 16th and
other arrondissments. There are literally hundreds of museums, most of them
known only to a few. Also, you can search out the remains of villages that
have been swallowed by the city. Look on the map for an area where the
streets form a small circle, that seem to make little connection with the
city around them. The 'rural' part of Montmartre, back behind Sacre Coeur
and around the Lapin Agile and the vineyard are an area like this.

While it's become very touristy to find the sites made famous in the movie
Amélie, there are lots of other literary and film references to Paris. You
could pursue the locations mentioned in the detective novels of Georges
Simenon's Commissaire Maigret (I always keep a map handy to follow his
movements, they are absolutely authentic) or perhaps the haunts of Ernest
Hemingway, from his Moveable Feast.

Try :

http://www.citefutee.com/orienter/plans.php
then "plan du metro"
The line 14 is not new but has been newly opened between Madeleine and Saint-Lazare.

Musée Bacarat newly opened place des 2

Musée Baccarat (glass and cristal factory famous in France)
refurbished by designer Philippe Starck and painter Gérard Garouste
recently reopened 11 (I think) place des Etats Unis, M° Iena. The
collection is not immense but lovely. At the exit of metro Iena you've
got also the musée Guimet of asiatic arts + the nearby pantheon
boudhique. Other smaller museums of asiatic arts : musée d'Ennery
avenue Foch (still closed for refurbishment, difficult access on
appointment only), musée Cernuschi avenue/rue ? Velasquez and musée
Albert Kahn in Boulogne.

Catacombes, Rodin, Picasso, Jewish, Arts et Métiers, Natural History
(evolution galery), french history (at the national archives), "magie"
museums ??
Difficult to know WHAT you have already seen in 20 times...

The bus is 8.2o €, the RER 7.75€. If you´re not on a tight schedule I
find the bus nicer than the RER.
One of the benefits of the bus is that it goes by the different
terminals - you don`t have to shuttle or walk to the RER station, and
then wait in line to purchase a ticket.
I took the bus from Paris to the CDG on a saturday a couple a months
ago. Traffic was light, but we were slowed down by some road
construction on the way - it took about 50 minutes to reach the
airport area, and then another 20 minutes going by all the different
terminals starting at 2A , before finally ending at terminal 1.

Finally I am looking for 10 unusal things to do in Paris - i.e. touristy

Default From CDG was: Paris metro Line 14

The price difference is negligible. However, the bus will dump me at
the Opera while the RER will get me to St. Michele/Notre Dame which is a
lot closer to Ille St. Louis where I'll be staying. FFM
