Jamaican Coffee & Cigars
I will be in Ocho Rios ONLY in about a week. Would anyone know where I can
find: 1. Duty Free Royal Jamaican Cigars 2. Super Nicely Priced Blue Mountain Coffee Where's a good place to find those items -- being as specific as you possibly can. |

Super Nicely Priced Blue Mountain Coffee It's everywhere there and you 'll get the best prices in the caribbean in Jamaica. Usually $12-13 a pound, which is good considering it sells here in the farmers markets for around $30 a pound! Don't know about cigars, but I'm sure they are abundant too, just like Rum. Look out for fake cigars. There's loads of them about, and most of them suck (and unfortunatly, most people don't realise). Make sure you know what you are looking for. Cheers Greg |

Do you mean most people don't realise they suck, or that most people don't realise they're fake? If they can't tell the difference, then I suppose most of the time everyone is happy all 'round. -- Ken Tough |

Hire a cab (for less than $5.00 US) to take you to the local grocery store. FYI, don't buy in anything else because coffee is as counterfit as the cigars. I generally buy cigars on the resort at the shops there. More $$$$ but I know I get the real thing. -- Chadcwilliams ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chadcwilliams's Profile: 212 View this thread: 67942 |

Do you mean most people don't realise they suck, or that most people don't realise they're fake? Both. I think a lot of people who get caught out by the fakes don't have much cigar smoking experience, and probably don't realise they are smoking a dog rocket. How would you know what a bad cigar tastes like unless you've had some good ones ? If they can't tell the difference, then I suppose most of the time everyone is happy all 'round. Ignorance is bliss for some I guess.... Greg |

The ligit cigar sellers will offer to smoke one with you before you buy. The ONLY way to tell for sure. There used to be a site that showed the labels next to the couterfit ones so you could tell but then you would have to really study them or carry a photo book with you and then argue with the guy if he insisted the photos were wrong and he was right. I decided to give up smoking If anyone is interested in the science of fake cigars, this site is worth a look: http://www.cubamall.com/spotfakes.html |

I remember this big shopping-arcade (like a big court, open air, two stores high with lots of small shops), they did have a cigar-shop for Cuban Cigars, so I guess they'll have Jamaican cigars as well. The place is near the pier, IIRC opposite of the big parking lot by the beach. Ochi is not so big, so you won't have trouble finding it. 2. Super Nicely Priced Blue Mountain Coffee There's a big supermarket on the main road in Ochi, they sell all kinds of stuff. I would try it there, as they are definetely cheaper than the small tourist-souvenier shops. Regards, Frank |
