Absolutely. Canada is the choice for Desserters, as well as appetizers.
Quebec is the best choice for desserts, but I know that Canada has won many culinary dessert awards. Thanks for the compliment. I hope you continue to boycott Canada. We would make mincemeat out of you and enter you in another dessert competition. "Boycott Canada" wrote in message .. . "Canada" The Deserters Choice. I've never met a Vietnam vet who had any problem with people who went to Canada to avoid the draft -- at least they had the courage to take decisive action for something they believed in. And in retrospect, they were probably a lot smarter than those of us who were duped into volunteering for a war fought in such a half-assed way for such half-assed reasons. (Apart from some Domino Theory equivalent, why are we so bound up in the defense of South Korea, Taiwan, and Israel now? Why do we care enough about any one of them to put ourselves at risk?) I went to Montreal and looked up a couple of friends when I returned from Nam in '70. The people up there were a lot more sympathetic than many Americans I encountered at that time. -- Larry |

The radical left are the ones that treated the vets badly are the same type
of cowards that fled to Canada. America, land of the unappreciative. But at least Canada has our back if there is a large invasion of walruses or equally dangerous foe. I was IN the radical Left during those times and no one I knew treated the Vietnam Vets badly. We knew they were NOT the enemy.Quite the contrary,we tried to win many of them over with the argument that it was a war minority and working class white kids were fighting on behalf of a clique of rich old farts who cared not one iota for their well being. So don't get it twisted. Our chant was"Hell,no,NOBODY goes"not "Hell no,WE won't go"which stinks of class and race priviledge. Riverman |

Minorities served and suffered casualties at about the same % of their representation in the general population. As did white males. jay Thu Apr 29, 2004 Riverman |

The budget, which Bush approved contained many cuts for war veterans. So don't tell me that Republicans give a damn about veterans because they don't. Bush's VA budget cuts were the front page story on the Wall Street Journal the Wednesday before Bush invaded Iraq. |

... Really? Look at the federal budget that was passed the day after Bush invaded Iraq. Fiscal policy in the United States is set by Congress and only Congress can approve the spending or cutting of spending in the federal government. The American president lacks such authority, which admittedly robs the president-bashers of a lot of hysterical hyperbole. If you'd like to influence or do something about federal spending or lack of it, you need to contact Congress. It's the Democrats and just a few conservative Republicans who are clamoring for a balanced budget. Clinton undid the Reagan deficit mess when he agreed with the Republicans and now Dick Cheney says, "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter." The utter gall of this man! What he really means is "If Democrats want it then we don't, but we reserve the right to change our position if they do." |
