Default Tips on Carnival - Questions

We are going on a trip Jan 2 for 3 days on Fascination. This is our first

Should we carry a lot of dollar bills to tip?
Should we opt for NOT having automatic tips charges on our ship card?
How do we tip for cabin service etc?

I agree with the others who have advised you to go with automatic
tipping. However you should have some extra cash on hand in order to
tip beyond the automatic amount for extra special service. The dollar
bills (which you can always get at the pursor's desk or the casino) will
come in very handy for cabin service tips. I usally tip $1.00 for a pot
of coffee and more if we are ordering a bunch of stuff. Have a ball.

We are going on a trip Jan 2 for 3 days on Fascination. This is our first
time. How do we handle tips?

Should we carry a lot of dollar bills to tip?
Should we opt for NOT having automatic tips charges on our ship card?
How do we tip for cabin service etc?

I could not find such information in any of the guides?

Thanks,

The easiest way is to use the automatic tip and forget the dollar bills
entirely.

Carnival will add $9.75 per person per day to your shipboard account to
cover tips - $5.50 pp/pd for Dining Team Service (Headwaiter & Waiter),
$0.75 pp/pd for Bistro Service (Waiter/Cooks), $3.50 pp/pd for Cabin
Services (Cabin Steward).

15% is added to all your bar bills to cover them.

You can go to the purser's desk and either add, or subtract from the $9.75
per person per day if you feel service was better or less then expected, and
you can remove it entirely should you wish to tip the old fashioned way.
You do not need dollars.

Tips on board will automatically be added to your account in the amount of
$9.75 per day. They are broken down as follows:

$3.50/day for your cabin steward.
$5.50/day for your dining room waiter/assistant waiter team.
$0.75/day for the alternative dining room staff.
15% automatically added to all bar items

The top three can be adjusted up or down depending on your satisfaction of
the service by visiting the information (Pursers) desk. I'm not sure about
the bottom item, though.

You should still carry $1 bills to tip taxi drivers, tour guides and
porters. I don't think you will need more than $10 to $15 in bills, though.

You should have some dollar bills to tip for room service.

Hi Jay,

HAL has a new policy whereby the gratuities will be added to your
shipboard account. Please see my post from on r.t.cruises from Nov.
10 or it is available in the "News" section on my web site. It is
under "Signature of Excellence" Initiative.

Best regards,
Ray
