Several people commented to me that there was something about the
Solstice's motion- particularly in the first few days- that gave them
more motion sickness-type grief than other ships. I don't get motion
sick easily, and didn't have any problems. Did anyone else notice
unusual or odd movement aboard the Solstice?

Also- are the stabilizers "tunable" or "adjustable" aboard a cruise
ship. For instance, are they "dialed in" over time?

Well, can't address the first question. But, the stabs are dynamic.
What they do is to sense the motion and deploy appropriately to
correct it. Sea trials are supposed to work out the issues, but this
doesn't always happen. The stabs depend on feedback to work properly.
Also, they are slow, so sudden changes get slow responses.

Motion sickness is highly individual, what may affect one person to
illness, another might pass as "sailing". Vertical, rapid, horizontal,
quick onset, irregular, regular, constant, not constant........

Nope!

I thought the ship movement wasn't bad at all, although you could tell
the ship was hiccupping a bit, it definitely has a quirk in its drive
train there somewhere....

Hi Nonny,
We did not experience any motion at all on the Solstice; in fact I was
puzzled that anyone complained. To me, it seemed a rather smooth sailing.

I thought so too -- especially considering the very high winds (40+ mph)
we had.

I read reports about a lot motion on other forums. It is sounding like
it does not effect those of us who don't get sea sick but those who do
get sea sick feel the motion more than they do normaly.

I found it to be no better or worse than other ships, and we had some
fairly agitated seas and high winds (see mummy picture of me, lol...)
along the way and had to make time on that first sea day. I think the
posters in question must have been wussies.

I usually take Bonine once a day when on a cruise. On the Solstice, I
found it to be such smooth sailing that it wasn't needed at all. Deck 9
rocks, but doesn't roll. LOL

Ermalee

That's for sure, Erm!!!

What happens on the Solstice stays on the Solstice.

That was engraved over my doorway.

One in our group has a fairly "tender" tummy and experienced sea
sickness (perhaps) for the first time. Other than that, nobody else
had any problems. The comment was actually made to me by others than
our own group. Personally, I did detect motion. However, I actually
enjoy motion and consider it a neutral-to-positive experience on a
ship. This is particularly true when sleeping.

One person speculated to me that with the Solstice being so new, that
they might still be experimenting with the stabilizer system to tune
it, or dial it in. That was the reason for the question following my
post. It makes sense that a stabilization system for such a new and
massive ship might need tuning.

Nonny, you probably met Sharon & Jeanette on the Solstice. This was
their first group cruise and they were introduced to the group by going
to one of Muffin's picnic's in Ohio. Anyway, Sharon asked me if I felt
any ship movement, because she fell out of bed one morning. She thought
we ran over a speed bump.

Okay, then I will not mention that Ermalee became engaged - twice.

You know, I saw Ermalee when I was getting coconut sorbet in the
buffet. She was leaving the ship, and I wanted to go with her, but I
had to take photos of the door decorations, first. I turn my back for
one minute, and this is what happens. lol

I did see her become engaged to David, though. Very touching. I need a
tissue. sniffle
