Default Recommendations - the perfect climate?

I was wondering where in the world posters would recommend for the perfect
climate?

This would also include having little danger of hurricanes, volcanic
activity, earthquakes, etc.

Generally, somewhere at relatively high altitude between the two Tropic
lines, closer to the equator, tends to be relatively temperate, and have
relatively minor climate changes. There are places in on the high
plateau of Mexico where the temperature changes so little throughout the
year that many people have neither heating nor air conditioning in their
houses and buildings, even if they could afford it. These are places
away from the earthquake zones farther to the southwest. Saltillo, San
Luis Potosi, San Miguel de Allende, and other similar cities come to
mind.

Other places like Quito could be possibilities for generally good
weather, but the very high altitude makes life a bit difficult, and
there is the risk of other natural disasters.

thanks for all the tips, James.

I was in the southern caribbean a few months ago and started to think of
somewhere down there as being ideal...ie just south enough to be below
the hurricane zone.

Since hurricanes can hit northern South America none of the caribbean is
safe from them. Lower probability yes but not safe. Pretty much any
island is going to be subject to storms or volcanic or both.

But it's funny, you soon see that there are other things that you had
never considered. Down that close to the equator, you lose the long
summer nights, that I am accustomed to in the UK. In the caribbean the
sun sets in a few minutes..and it goes from light to pitch dark in a
hurry. I hadn't considered that issue before. But the awesome night
sky was soemthing to behold....no clouds and no light pollution....the
stars shone like diamonds.

Another thing that I discovered that I liked about the UK, and was
missing in the caribbean, is the lack of temp change and lack of
distinct seasons.

I think that I need to make a big table or spreadsheet and list all the
key variables and match them off against various location possibilites.

I think that you are going to need compromises. And the choice will be
very personal.

Thanks for the Mexican tips...I must go and do a Google search on them.

Frank is so right. You didn't define "perfect"

I live in Phoenix where the summer days frequently go over
115 deg F/45 C and nighttime temps sometimes don't go
below 95 deg F/35 C. I want to KILL those guys who say
"I LOVE the heat and complain when it is only 77 F/25 C.

Others hate San Diego because it is almost always sunny
and almost always pretty warm because they like the
changing seasons.

I spent last summer in Taiwan where the
natives love the humidity and think anything
under 65 degrees is cold enough to wear a parka.

I guess that i would love a lovely lot up on a hill/mountain, with great
views of the sea below...and one of those horizon type pools too!

I've always esteemed the idea of living high on the slopes of Haleakala, the
extinct volcano on Maui. The climate is like Northern California (with
redwood trees, even), and the view is amazing -- looking down through patchy
clouds to farms, the ocean, and further mountains. When you want a seasonal
change, just drive down the slope for lunch.

One slight correction, Haleakala is classified as dormant.
I once saw a sunrise there, it was magnificent.

Really? I've never heard of that. Do you know if these trees
are native or transplants that liked the environment?

.... stops to search ...

OK. I see. These are not native, but it's pretty
interesting nonetheless:
